Prominent figures such as Rachel Maddow, Chris Matthews, and Keith Olbermann contributed to the network’s evolution into a platform for political punditry. However, in the 2020s, MSNBC shifted its focus back to hard news, scaling down opinion-based programming. By 2023, it had become the second most-watched cable news network in the U.S., with hit programs like The Rachel Maddow Show, The Beat with Ari Melber, and Deadline: White House.
