VH1 (Video Hits One) is a basic cable channel in the United States that was established on January 1, 1985. Presently, it is owned by Paramount Global’s CBS Entertainment Group and was originally developed by Warner-Amex Satellite Entertainment to serve as a counterpart to MTV.
Originally, VH1 focused on lighter, softer music videos aimed at an older audience. Over time, the channel transitioned to reality television, emphasizing music personalities, celebrities, and African-American-focused content. Notable franchises include Behind the Music, the I Love… series, Love & Hip Hop, and Basketball Wives.
